Benefits of Martial Arts

Self-confidence

Students trained in martial arts will be more comfortable in all situations – whether in danger or simply doing a task that takes you beyond your comfort level – you’ll discover that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to!

Discipline and Self-Control

The practice of martial arts is not about establishing dominance or gaining control of a weaker opponent.  Students learn to have full control over their mind and body in order to win a battle through strategy and technique.  Furthermore, students will master the art of seeing a challenge through to its conclusion.  This requires concentration, an understanding of their weaknesses, and the perseverance to accomplish a set target even when it is difficult.  Martial arts helps to control fear and aggression and bring emotional stability and inner strength.

Decision-Making

Success is often a result of good decision-making.  Martial arts facilitate decision-making by helping students to expand their ability to judge and react to situations.  During sparring, students will need to decide quickly which moves to execute in order to gain the advantage over their opponent.  In both an educational and social setting, this decisiveness under pressure will prove invaluable for the student’s development.

Respect

Martial arts demand the highest levels of mutual respect among their students. Students must follow strict social etiquette when interacting with their instructors and their peers. Whether it’s bowing to their masters or supporting other students, participants are expected to show respect at every opportunity.

Improves Overall Health

Martial arts provide an aerobic activity that uses all muscle groups.  Stamina, muscle tone, flexibility, balance and strength will improve through martial arts.  Furthermore, a one-hour session of moderate intensity martial arts can burn up to 500 calories, facilitating weight loss and improving cardiovascular health.  Regular exercise also releases endorphins, which improve mood and relieve stress and frustration.

Improve Reflexes

Martial arts have been found to not only improve reflexes while performing drills, but actually increases reaction times during all daily activities.

Improves Working Memory

Learning forms and memorizing bible verses helps to improve memory for students of all ages.
